Kids Muay thai & Kickboxing
Age 8 - 12

Kids Thai Boxing class is suitable for ages 8 – 12 years. This course teaches children Thai Boxing / Muay Thai skills in a safe, positive environment with no egos.

We break down one or two techniques in each session, making it easy to learn and remember. Students work together in pairs or groups, practising and perfecting their skills while building friendships. Coaches observe and interact with the groups, providing feedback, tips and demos to ensure everyone is on track.

Skills for Life

Although they learn Muay Thai techniques, this does not make kids aggressive by nature. Studies have shown that martial arts can reduce aggressive behaviour by teaching discipline and self-control in equal measure.

The club embodies the martial arts code of humility, respect and endeavour. This culture helps to nurture a positive, hardworking attitude at this critical age. It will benefit any kid in every aspect of their life, at home and school.

Awards and Progression

This class builds upon skills learned in the Dragons class, although children can join at any time and will quickly find their feet.

Kids earn a white wristband after completing their first month’s training.

White is the first colour in the grading system, which uses coloured wristbands to reward attendance, attitude, effort and ability. Wristbands are a symbol of achievement and determination, worn in class with pride!

The class prepares students for Teens Thai Boxing.

The Assistant Coach program inspires and rewards excellence as we promote the most proficient, hardworking students to assist their peers in class. This opportunity is a powerful source of motivation as we build the next generation of martial arts coaches.

The Benefits of Thai Boxing For Kids

After-school activities are more important than ever in this digital age. Children spend too many hours in front of a screen and too little developing themselves physically.

While there are endless activities to choose from, many involve showing up and going through the motions – this is not the case at Instinct Martial Arts. We are passionate about the art of Thai Boxing, and this generation is the future of the sport.

Thai Boxing classes lock in essential life skills early on:

  • Fitness
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Focus
  • Discipline
  • Respect and Humility
  • Confidence and Self-esteem
  • Conflict resolution
  • Self Defence

Martial arts advocate peaceful conflict resolution. However, there are times when self-defence is sometimes necessary. While we hope our children will never be in a situation that requires it, self-defence is a lifesaving skill. The skills learned in this class allow your child to protect themselves in a dangerous situation.

Safeguarding

Coaches are positive role models and are trained to work with children. They are Enhanced DBS checked, fully insured and hold First Aid certificates. More details are available on our Safeguarding page.

Will My Child Spar in this Class?

Children only spar if they wish to and if approved by a parent or guardian.

Sparring is gentle and controlled with no head contact. It is a mental and physical exercise that develops footwork, movement, timing and tactics.

There is no pressure; students can spend time on the bag or other exercises if they prefer not to spar.

What Do They Need for Class?

The Instinct Martial Arts training kit is available to buy online or at the gym. It is everything you need for class:

This gear provides the protection, comfort and freedom of movement essential for Thai Boxing. It is made to last by leading brands in Thai Boxing equipment.

Instinct’s training gear is more than just clothing. It makes them feel part of the team. Putting on the kit is a physical and mental preparation tool – committing themselves 100% to the session ahead.

When they step onto the mats, they are focused and ready for the session ahead.
